BEYOND A PHOTOGRAPH
Most of the drawings on this site are taken from photos, but I don't use any digital effects or short-cuts - just paper and pencil. The idea is to go beyond a photograph, not just to make a reproduction or a photocopy. It's always faithful to the original - sometimes almost photorealistic - and I take a lot of pride and pleasure in the pure quality of the work. However when my human eyes and hands draw a subject, the drawing will always take on something of what I'm seeing in it.
CHANGE IT UP OR FIX IT UP?
You can do amazing things with photoshop but I can apply some of the same basic ideas - lighting, cropping, combining images, editing out unwanted flaws, details or backgrounds - just by choosing what to draw and how.
You can commission me to draw a portrait of any subject - your pet, yourself, your friend or loved one, your hero or inspiration. All I need is a good reference photo (or even two).
1. Check out the guide prices here to see what you want. I don't overcharge. My prices are based on an estimate of the number of hours required to finish your drawing.
2. Use the contact box below or email gregandrews@ymail.com to tell me what you're looking for and check my availability and timings.
3. Choose a good reference photo. If you don't already have one, see here for tips on how to take it with your phone or camera. If you're not sure, send me what you have, and we can chat. For famous subjects I can help you source a good picture online to make a great drawing.
4. Email or upload your reference photos to me, I'll confirm the price and delivery date and ask you to pay a 50% deposit. I'll send you a receipt and order confirmation.
5. Congratulations, you have just commissioned an artist!
It's your drawing, and I will draw whatever you want to your satisfaction. If there are any decisions to make on content / composition, we will make them together.
